Health: Our Cattery’s Core Focus

At Sunova Siberians, health is our top priority. We stand out as one of the few nurse practitioner owned catteries and are well-equipped to breed healthy and vibrant cats. For example, we always conduct advanced health screenings and DNA testing to check for known congenital illnesses. Additionally, all of our breeding cats undergo annual testing for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a hereditary form of heart disease. Since this condition cannot be detected through DNA testing, we rely on echocardiograms, the gold standard for screening. As a large breed, Siberian cats require these advanced health checks as part of ethical breeding practices.

We’re also a proud member of the Siberian Health Cat Association, which maintains public health records for our cats. Furthermore, our cattery is equipped with a Neonatal Nursery featuring an ultrasound, gastrointestinal support supplies, and incubators for kittens needing extra care. Additionally, all our kittens are examined by a certified Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) to screen for heart murmurs, disease, and stool health. We only breed queens that are well-nourished, at a healthy weight, and pass comprehensive prenatal screenings.

What to Know About Adopting from Sunova Siberians

Our adoption fee is $2,400. All kittens are registered with TICA and CFA to guarantee a purebred pedigree. Two of our breeding cats—Akay, one of our studs, and Raya, one of our queens—are breed-standard champion show cats with CFA. Our smoke stud Alec is a TICA champion.

Every kitten is vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped. We also offer a two-year congenital health guarantee. You will receive all health reports and are welcome to request them at any time.

We prioritize optimal nutrition, feeding all our kittens premium food supplemented with vitamins, probiotics, and immune boosters. Lastly, we’re fortunate to work with Dr. Thoreson, a highly skilled reproductive veterinarian in Snohomish, WA. Around 9 weeks old, our kittens undergo a full cardiac and health assessment before joining their new families.

From the moment they are born, we are there to see each kitten take its first breath. We know each one as an individual and care for them with the utmost love and attention until they are ready to go home to their forever families, and we work closely with our clients to build lasting relationships, ensuring they always have us as a resource.

All our kittens are hand-raised in a family-friendly environment, socialized with young children, and given every advantage to grow into well-adjusted, healthy cats.

Temperament

Siberian cats are devoted, loving, intelligent, and playful. These traits are nurtured when raised properly from birth. Our family-owned cattery encourages healthy development by giving our kittens age-appropriate toys and letting them interact with young children. We can also arrange for dog socialization if needed, and we take our cats to visit terminally ill patients along with children with special needs.

Excellence

At Sunova Siberians, we’re committed to responsible practices, including regular medical testing and daily nutrition protocols. Additionally, we give our kings and queens plenty of rest and love, limiting breeding cycles to promote their well-being.

Our commitment to quality results in kittens that are healthy and happy, so they thrive in their new homes. Let us know if you're interested in our upcoming litters, as we keep them limited to ensure optimal health for all our Siberian kittens in Seattle.

About Sunova Siberians

Meet Brooke and Aleksey
We hold strong family values and share a deep love for cats. After discovering Aleksey's cat allergies, we set out to find the perfect breed for allergy-sensitive individuals. Our journey led us to Siberian Forest cats, and we instantly fell in love with their playful, loyal, intelligent, and affectionate nature.
Our first Siberian Forest cat was love at first sight, and in 2019, we officially became Siberian cat breeders in Washington State. Several factors distinguish us from other breeders, especially when it comes to Siberians:

Extensive Veterinary Background
With our veterinary expertise, we have become skilled Siberian breeders. Our experience allows us to provide first-class care, including advanced medical testing. We understand what it takes to maintain exemplary kitten care throughout all stages of life, starting before birth. Our Siberian kittens in Seattle remain in optimal condition thanks to our unique approach to nutrition, training, and family-centered care.

Breeding Philosophy
The happiness, health, and longevity of our Siberian cats are our top priorities. This includes:

  • Responsible Breeding: We do not constantly breed our queens. Instead, we carefully coordinate a limited number of litters each year. Off-seasons are essential for nourishing our cats with love and nutritious foods.

  • Ethical Sourcing: We believe that diverse genetics improve the breed’s health. Genetic mutations are more common when parents are closely related, which is why our cats come from the Czech Republic, Russia, and the United Kingdom.

  • Genetic Testing: Before breeding, we screen our cats with DNA tests and echocardiograms to eliminate any risk of hereditary defects or heart and kidney problems. We also monitor each litter via ultrasound during pregnancy and perform regular blood and stool samples after birth to ensure optimal health. Our cattery is proud to maintain a record free from congenital illnesses.

  • Nutrition: Our kittens receive a well-balanced diet with special protocols, including a secret blend of premium food, vitamins, probiotics, and immune boosters. We perform regular weigh-ins to track kitten development and provide detailed nutrition information to families when they adopt.

Family-Oriented
As a family-owned business, we place great value on building supportive relationships with clients. We aim to connect each kitten with their perfect forever home. We invite you to follow us on social media to see how we carefully match our kittens with new families. We’re always here to answer any questions.
Our services include ongoing support that begins long before the kittens are born and continues through all stages of their lives. At the end of the day, we believe in transparent and honest communication, and our passion for the breed makes Sunova the top choice for Siberian kittens in Washington State.

The Siberian Cat Breed

Siberian cats are known for their intelligence, playfulness, and affectionate nature. Our Siberians in Washington are champion-certified and make exceptional companions.

  • Hypoallergenic: Siberians produce 60% less "Fel d 1" protein, which makes them an ideal low-allergen cat. However, this does not mean they are allergen-free, so we encourage you to visit and spend time with them to see if they are a suitable match for you.

  • Temperament: Siberian cats are often described as having a dog-like temperament. They are playful, enjoy following you around, and even communicate through chirping. Their social and loving nature is enhanced by our tailored socialization practices.

  • Integration: Our kittens are raised with exposure to young children, making them ideal for families of all sizes. Whether you have children, dogs, or live in a quiet home, Siberians integrate easily into various living environments.

Physical Attributes

Our purebred Siberian cats in Washington are known for their beautiful appearance and excellent health. They are strong, balanced, and embody the highest standards of temperament, structure, and beauty. Their eyes range from gold to green, and they have tufts of fur on the tips of their ears, which help filter debris and keep them warm.

Siberians also have tufts between their toes that act like built-in snowshoes.

Their triple-layer coat is water-resistant and can come in solid colors, classic tabby patterns (swirled or marbled stripes), or mackerel tabby patterns (tiger stripes). Their thick coat helps regulate body temperature and stays relatively tangle-free, though they still enjoy a good brushing. Many Siberians love water, and if introduced to bathing early, they may even enjoy the occasional bath.

Potential Health Concerns

Like any breed, Siberians can have potential health concerns. At Sunova Siberians, we address these proactively by breeding ethically and performing regular health screenings, DNA testing, and echocardiograms.

We’re committed to staying informed on the latest research in Siberian cat health and longevity, ensuring that we provide the best possible care for our kittens. Furthermore, we pride ourselves on transparency. If any issues arise, we communicate them openly. We carefully screen for everything possible, and our nurturing environment ensures that our kittens enjoy the highest quality of life from the moment they are born.

What Our Customers Are Saying About Our Cats

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What if I have questions after the adoption?
We aren’t your typical cattery. We believe in building long-term relationships with our clients and offer ongoing support and guidance well after adoption.
  • Are Sunova Siberians hypoallergenic cats?
Yes! Siberians are low-allergen cats, making them an excellent choice for allergy-sensitive individuals. They produce 60% less Fel d 1 protein in their saliva, which helps reduce allergic reactions, though they are not completely allergen-free. We encourage you to visit and spend time with them to see if they’re a good match for you.
  • What health concerns should I expect?
Thanks to our advanced screenings, you can trust that you are receiving a top-quality kitten. We screen for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and other congenital illnesses in our breeding cats, and kittens get assessed for murmurs by a DVM via stethoscope.
  • What are your breeding practices like?
To ensure happy, healthy cats, we breed our kings and queens on a limited basis. A stress-free and positive environment is crucial to maintaining responsible breeding practices. As a trusted and reputable breeder certified by The International Cat Association (TICA), we take pride in nurturing award-winning champion cats.
  • Can I pick what color my Siberian is?
Yes! We produce kittens with the following coat colors: blue (dark gray), silver (light gray), brown, black, sunshine, or smoke. Their coats can be solid-colored, classic tabby (swirled/marbled stripes), or mackerel tabby (tiger stripes). However, we do not breed orange or red coats yet. Please note that due to rarity, smoke and solid black kittens don’t occur often and wait times for these colors are 6 to 18 months.
  • Do Siberians get along well with children?
Siberians are known for their social nature, and we take extra care to socialize our kittens with children from a young age. This helps them seamlessly integrate into any home environment. We also offer dog socialization to ensure a well-rounded temperament.
  • Are you a certified breeder?
Yes, we are a trusted, reputable breeder certified by TICA. We pride ourselves on raising award-winning champion Siberian cats in Seattle.
